How to Install Chrome in Garuda Linux using Flatpak

Welcome to today’s blog post on how to install Chrome in Garuda Linux using Flatpak. Garuda Linux, known for its performance and user-friendly features, provides a robust user environment. chrome is one of the popular web browsers. I like to use Chrome because of its sync system and speed. It can sync data from your phone and you can access your passwords, bookmarks and also you can share any URL from PC to mobile or vice versa using Chrome. While there are other browsers available I think they have fewer features than Chrome. So let's start today’s blog.

Why Flatpak?

Before starting the installation process, let's briefly discuss why Flatpak is the preferred method. Flatpak is a universal packaging system that simplifies software distribution across various Linux distributions. It offers a secure and isolated environment and it minimizes potential conflicts between applications and their dependencies. This makes it an ideal choice for installing Chrome on your Garuda Linux system.

Step 1: Make sure Flatpak is Installed

Before proceeding, ensure that Flatpak is installed on your Garuda Linux system. If not, you can install it easily using the following command:

sudo pacman -S flatpak

Step 2: Add Flathub Repository

Flathub is the default repository for Flatpak applications. Execute the following command to add the Flathub repository:

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Step 3: Install Chrome in Garuda Linux

Now that Flatpak is set up. Execute the following command to install Chrome:

flatpak install flathub com.google.Chrome

This command fetches the Chrome Flatpak package from Flathub and installs it on your Garuda Linux system.

Step 4: Launch Chrome

Once the installation is complete, Now you can launch Chrome either from the application menu or by using the following command:

flatpak run com.google.Chrome

Or just search “Chrome” in the search box. If you don't see Chrome pls restart your system.
